Audi TT Roadster vs BMW Z4

What will they cost?

Glance at the brochure prices and the BMW Z4 doesn’t look great value, but because it has been around for several years, our Target Price mystery shoppers managed to haggle more than £6200 off the price.

The savings available on the Audi TT Roadster are much smaller, so it will actually cost you almost £700 more than the Z4 after discounts. And while the TT does hold its value better than the Z4, overall there's almost nothing between these two once you've also factored in servicing, insurance, road tax and real-world fuel economy.

Where the TT does have the advantage is as a company car; its lower CO2 emissions and cheaper list price mean a 40% taxpayer will sacrifice £1023 less of their salary during the next three years.

However, PCP buyers will spend less by choosing the Z4. Put down a £5000 deposit and BMW will boost that figure to £11,500, and then charge you a monthly fee of £413. By contrast, Audi won’t contribute anything towards your deposit and will demand £522 a month; these are both three-year deals limited to 12,000 miles a year.

Whichever car you choose the list of standard equipment includes air-conditioning, leather seats, automatic xenon headlights and rain-sensing windscreen wipers. The BMW adds electric seats and satellite navigation, while both makers charge extra for rear parking sensors and cruise control. Tyre pressure monitoring and four airbags are standard on both cars, but automatic emergency braking isn’t available.
