Most cars hide their filling caps away behind plastic. When closed, the flap is designed to melt into the panel of the car, but not so in my Audi TTS.
Instead, my car shouts about its need for fuel, with its filler cap marked out in a silver metallic finish, complete with faux-rivets and a TT badge to remind you of its sporty nature. I rather like it – at the very least it means I’m constantly reminded of which side my filler cap is on, which avoids embarrassing situations on the forecourt.
What I’m less fond of, though, is the way the fuel gauge is displayed inside the car. Rather than being on a pinpoint-accurate dial or fancy graphic that trickles down, the TT uses a bar system, so each time I lose a bar it represents a big loss from the whole.
Perhaps that explains why I’m treating the accelerator pedal so delicately – resulting in fuel economy that’s closing in on the TTS’s official figure of 34.0mpg.
