Used Volkswagen Transporter T6 2016-2019 reliability
Category: Medium Van
Strong, solid and extremely versatile, the VW Transporter is one of our favourite vans.
What should I look for in a used Volkswagen Transporter van?
The Transporter has amassed a reputation for solid and reliable motoring, hence its high residual values. Most of its underpinnings are shared with many other products in the Volkswagen Group range, so parts are easily accessible. It's a large vehicle in all its forms, however, so check the bodywork closely for scuffs and dents and any signs of obvious damage to the wheels or the alignment of the van. Make sure all seats fold and move as they should, and that the large doors open and close properly.
It has been the subject of a just one recall, to check a small airbag fault, so it's worth checking that this has been carried out. There have been reports of engine failure with the 2.0 TDI 180 bi-turbo and 205 engines, but these are still relatively rare, and the DSG gearbox was known to give problems in earlier VW cars, although the ones that would feature in this generation of Transporter were by and large more reliable.
