Used Smart ForTwo EQ 2018-present reliability
Category: Electric car
Fun and cheap, and probably the nicest of the ForTwo cars, but most of its electric rivals are better all-rounders and have a longer range.
What should I look for in a used Smart ForTwo EQ coupe?
Despite its tight turning circle and good-sized mirrors, you should check the alloy wheels for kerb damage and bumpers for scrapes. The interior could be ordered in some rather light colours that will not hide dirt for long. It is also made with plenty of hard, scratchy plastics that might be easy to wipe clean, but could be scuffed for example by shoes or even jewellery.
Reported problems with the ForTwo EQ are few, though, and owners seem happy with their cars so far.
The car didn’t feature in our most recent What Car? Reliability Survey, but the standard petrol-engined car certainly has a good record and we’ve no reason to suppose the electric version should be much different.
