Used test: Audi R8 Spyder vs Porsche 911 Cabriolet
Closely matched at birth, the Audi R8 Spyder and Porsche 911 Cabriolet meet again for a used car test rematch...
Our Verdict
It’s a tricky one this. Do you give the nod to the one that is easiest to live with day-to-day, the least costly to run and the one with the more modern interior - that would be the Porsche 911 Cabriolet. Or, do you give it to the Audi R8. A car that has an inferior interior and horrendous running costs. But, it does have more engaging handling and greater agility, despite its extra weight.
It really is tough this. You wouldn’t be disappointed with either car really as they are both brilliant in their own right. But, if you consider that these are less likely to be someone’s everyday car since they’ll be a used purchase that is outside of the standard manufacturer’s warranty period; you’ll want it to be an exciting weekend toy. When you do that, it is clear which one should be the winner.
Yes, it might be expensive to run but the Audi R8 Spyder is the one you’ll want to get behind the wheel most of all when the sun’s out and the roads are clear. The Porsche is very, very good; but the Audi is better. Hang on to it long enough, and the R8 Spyder could be an appreciating classic too.
