Used Seat Leon vs Vauxhall Astra
Those looking for a good family hatchback are spoilt for choice here, with the excellent Seat Leon taking on the Vauxhall Astra. But which one makes more sense as a used purchase? Read on to find...
What will they cost?
New, the list price of the Seat Leon was around £1000 more than the Vauxhall Astra. However, our Target Price team said at the time that you could actually pick up a Leon for £18,184 against the Astra’s £18,145, a negligible difference. Now, it’s the Leon that’s worth more, with our original test car here now worth £12,800 against the Astra’s £11,800 – a difference of – yep, you guessed it – £1000.
So, both of these cars represent great value on the used car market. That you can buy a competent five-door hatchback family car that’s been well kept and is little more than two years old for this sort of money is excellent news.
As far as running costs go, it’s the same story. Even after factoring in the bills you’re likely to face – servicing, fuel, insurance and any further depreciation – there’s barely anything between the two cars.
