Renault Initiale concept previews next Espace
* Renault shows Initiale concept at Frankfurt show * Previews the next generation of Espace MPV * Next Espace not due in the UK...
This is the Renault Initiale concept car, which hints heavily at the styling of the next Espace MPV.
The Initiale is the sixth concept in Renault's recent design strategy, following on from the Dezir sports car, the Captur crossover, the R-Space MPV, the Frenzy commercial vehicle, and the TwinZ, which previews the 2014 Twizy city car.
At 4.85m long, the Initiale is larger than the last generation Espace, and Renault claims it will plenty of cabin space. It has seven seats in all, with the two front rows offering two independent chairs, while the third row has bench seating for three. Passengers get into the car with help from a motorised running board.
The Initiale is painted in a colour that switches from deep black to luminous purple depending on the angle you view it from, while the LED headlights have a mechanism that makes them blink.
There's a 38-speaker audio system that has been developed by Bose. Each seat in the front two rows gets a pair of speakers in the headrest and there are two subwoofers – one in the front and one in the back.
Much of the Intiale's styling will likely will appear on the next-generation Espace. However, there are no plans for the Espace to be offered on sale in the UK – the current generation was taken off sale at the end of 2011.
