What should I look for in a used MG ZS EV hatchback?

MG provides the full array of cables (including a slow-charge, three-pin lead) with every ZS EV. Make sure they are all supplied with the car because they can be quite expensive to replace.
Other than that, you should do all the regular used car checks, such as seeing whether there's any damage to the bumpers and bodywork, examining the alloy wheels for extensive kerb damage, and making sure the interior hasn't been trashed by family life.

Is a used MG ZS EV hatchback reliable?
We consider the MG ZS EV a generally reliable car, but it has its notable faults. In our latest What Car? Reliability Survey, the ZS EV managed a fifth place finish out of nine cars in the electric SUV category. Its reliability score of 93.5% puts it above the Hyundai Ioniq 5 but below the Skoda Enyaq.
A quarter of the ZS EVs in our survey had a problem. The vast majority of faults were to do with the engine and non-engine electrics. There were also some troubles surrounding the air-con, battery, bodywork and brakes. It’s reassuring, though, that MG paid for all of the cars that went wrong. Most cars could still be driven and were repaired in less than a week.
MG, as a brand, came 25th out of 32 manufacturers. Its overall score of 89.2% put it above Audi but below Mercedes.
Used MG ZS EV: owners' reliability data
As part of our 2023 Reliability Survey, What Car? readers said the MG ZS EV exhibits commendable reliability, but experiences with dealer service vary. Many owners reported their ZS EVs to be largely trouble-free, praising the car for its reliability and smooth performance. However, a few owners did encounter issues with the electrical system, including sporadic warning lights and software glitches. These problems, while not widespread, required attention from the dealerships.
Feedback on dealer service was mixed. Some readers highlighted their positive experiences, noting that dealerships were quick to diagnose and fix issues, providing excellent customer service. Others, however, faced longer wait times for repairs and parts, which led to frustration. Communication from some dealers was also found lacking, contributing to a less satisfactory service experience.
