The Mercedes EQE is suave and sophisticated, and now remarkably good value for money used. However, one or two of its rivals make better sense.
What should I look for in a used Mercedes EQE saloon?
When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.
There isn't anything specific to the EQE to look out for yet. When it was tested by Euro NCAP for safety in 2022, the model was awarded five stars out five, and scored highly for adult and child occupant protection. All versions have automatic emergency braking (AEB).
What are the most common problems with a used Mercedes EQE saloon?
There have been the following recalls against the EQE's name. Check with your local Mercedes dealer that all remedial work has been carried out.

On affected vehicles the connection of the B-pilar trim to the structural inlay may not meet specifications.
Reason for recall
The steering of certain EQE (295 platform) vehicles may have been damaged during the assembly process.
Reason for recall
The manufacturer has determined that certain EQE (295 platform) vehicles might not be equipped with the correct Electronic Stability Program (ESP) software version.
Reason for recall
On affected vehicles software of the electric drivetrain might not meet specifications.
Reason for recall
On affected vehicles the software of the battery management system might lead to a shutdown of the high voltage system in specific situations resulting in an unannounced loss of propulsion.

On affected vehicles the bonding of the front rear and fixed side windows might not meet specifications.

Is a used Mercedes EQE saloon reliable?
There were too few examples of the EQE to feature in our 2024 What Car? Reliability Survey.
As a brand, though, Mercedes came 22nd out of 31 manufacturers featured with an overall score of 89.7%. This put it above Audi and Jaguar but below BMW and Tesla. Check out the full list of manufacturers here.
Based on that alone, rivals like the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4 could be more reliable than the EQE.
