The NX was awarded five stars out of five for safety by Euro NCAP and it certainly gets lots of kit to help you avoid an accident.
Automatic emergency braking (AEB), lane-keeping assistance and traffic-sign recognition are standard across the range, with increasingly more safety aids, including blind-spot monitoring, fitted to F-Sport and Takumi versions.
What are the most common problems with a used Lexus NX estate?
As of writing, the NX has just one recall to its name and it only applies to the NX 450h.
It describes a DC-DC converter in the plug-in hybrid system that might have been damaged during production. Number of affected vehicles: 891. Year applicable: 2022.

Is a used Lexus NX estate reliable?
Our data suggests the Lexus NX is a very reliable car. In our 2023 What Car? Reliability Survey, it ranked second out of 34 cars in the family SUV class. Its reliability rating was a near-faultless 99.4% and the model was only beaten by its predecessor, the 2014-2021 Lexus NX.
In our most recent 2024 survey, it scored a terrific 97.6% and finished fifth, with the first-generation NX once again in the top spot.
This makes the NX a more reliable buy than the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40.
Minor electrical issues were the only complaint from 5% of the owners who completed our survey. They told us their cars remained drivable and were fixed in a day or less, and no one was landed with a repair bill.
As a car brand, Lexus – surprise, surprise – came first out of 32 manufacturers in 2023. Its overall reliability rating was 98.3%, besting Toyota, Mini and Suzuki in second, third and fourth respectively.
In our 2024 survey, Lexus slipped down to second place with a score of 97.9%, losing the top slot to the Mini brand.
Used Lexus NX reliability: the owners' view
As part of our annual survey, What Car? readers said the Lexus NX offers generally strong reliability, though there have been a few concerns raised. Some owners reported issues with warning lights activating unexpectedly, often related to the car’s hybrid system. However, these problems appeared to be infrequent and not widespread.
Dealership service was typically praised, with several readers noting that Lexus dealerships were quick to diagnose and resolve faults. One owner highlighted how their dealership fixed a hybrid warning light issue promptly and at no cost. The overall perception of Lexus’s dealer network was positive, with praise for friendly staff and efficient repairs.
Most customers were satisfied with both the reliability of the NX and the high level of service provided by Lexus dealers.
