Most buyers will be best served by the hybrid (HEV) model, although the plug-in (PHEV) will appeal to company car drivers and the diesel is the one to go for if you’re towing. We think the entry-level trim – called 2 – is the best choice.

See full equipmentThis range-topping trim pushes the Sorento’s price up very high. It adds rear airbags (it’s a shame the lower trims don’t get this as standard), a panoramic sunroof, a system which lets you park the car remotely via a smartphone and heated rear seats. Because of the price, it’s difficult to recommend.
