Used Jeep Renegade 2015-present reliability

The Jeep Renegade offers distinctive styling and decent practicality, but most rivals make it feel slightly agricultural
What should I look for in a used Jeep Renegade 4x4?
There is a chance that your Renegade might have been used for a bit of off-road action, so check the front, rear and undersides of the car carefully to make sure no damage has incurred. Look for scuffed bumpers and alloy wheels. It’s worth checking any electrical components in the interior, too.
The engines here are familiar from other Fiat models and there have been many reported problems. If you’re buying one of the diesel models, it’s worth noting that the diesel particulate filters are prone to clogging. The repair can be simple — a quick blast to loosen things up — or expensive, if it’s been that way for some time. Some cars had problems with the diesel engines, often related to this issue, and overly high oil levels after fuel contamination.
What are the most common problems with a used Jeep Renegade 4x4?
Software update
A software update applied to some Renegades made between 12 July 2017 and 4 June 2019 could disable some of the vehicle's passive restraint systems. Speak to your local Jeep dealer to find out if your car is affected by this because another update will be required to sort this issue.
Side airbags
The side airbags of examples made between 30 October and 22 November 2016 could fail to deploy in a collision. Find out if your Renegade is affected by this because the faulty airbags will need to be replaced.
Engine mount
The right side engine mount of cars made from 18 October to 5 December 2018 might not have been manufactured correctly. Affected examples will need to have them replaced at a Jeep dealership to sort this problem.
Wiring harness
An issue with the wiring harness could cause the automatic gearbox to select neutral when it shouldn't. Find out from a Jeep dealer if your car is affected by this because it'll need to have part of the wiring harness replaced and a software update installed.
