The HR-V has some strong suits, but it isn’t as practical or as good to drive as some of its rivals.
What should I look for in a used Honda HR-V hatchback?
When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.
There isn't anything specific to the HR-V to look out for yet. Euro NCAP awarded the HR-V four stars out of five when it was tested for safety. It scored fairly well for adult occupants but didn’t do so well at protecting child occupants in the side barrier impact test. Honda fits a good amount of important safety kit to every version of the HR-V, including blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control.

Is a used Honda HR-V hatchback reliable?
While the current HR-V proved too new to feature in our 2023 What Car? Reliability Survey, the previous version ranked seventh out of 22 cars in the small SUV class. As a brand, Honda placed sixth out of 32 manufacturers featured.
Based on the above, the current HR-V should be reliable, more so than many rivals. The Citroen C3 Aircross and MG HS, for instance, received poor reliability ratings.
