Used DS 4 2015-2018 reliability
Category: Family SUV
Plentiful equipment and unique styling aren't enough to eradicate the DS 4's inadequacies in refinement and driving dynamics.
What should I look for in a used DS DS 4 hatchback?
Aside from the obvious external checks for damaged paint, scuffs on bumpers and kerb damage to the alloy wheels, you should also make sure you can live with the restrictive rear door openings. Families with young children might find it rather difficult to get their little ones into their child seats.
Also, check the condition of the seat fabric for any tears and general wear, ensure all the electronics work as they should and look around for any bits of broken or loose plastic.
What are the most common problems with a used DS DS 4 hatchback?
Starter motor wire
The position of the starter motor supply terminal might not conform to specification and could short circuit against nearby components. Dealers are to check the position of the terminal and reposition the wire to prevent this from happening. If the wire is chaffed, it might need replacing.
Seatbelt failure
Lower seatbelt mountings on the right hand side of the car might not be torqued down to the correct settings and could therefore detach in a collision, increasing the risk of injury to occupants. DS dealers are to inspect the mounts and rectify any faults they find.
Oil leak
An oil leak might develop from the turbocharger because a union retaining bolt doesn't conform to the manufacturer’s specification.
Unexpected bonnet opening
The striker that holds the bonnet closed can corrode on some models and will fail if left untreated, with the potential for the bonnet to open when the car is in motion. Check that the bonnet latches correctly when you go to view the car.
Loss of engine performance
A small number of DS 4 models can suffer from reduced engine performance and potential engine failure. Ask your local DS dealership if your potential purchase is affected, because you might need to have the engine replaced in extreme circumstances.
Is a used DS DS 4 hatchback reliable?
There wasn’t enough data to include the DS 4 or DS as a brand in our most recent Reliability Survey, but Citroën, where DS sources most of its technology and engineering, came in a lowly 25th out of 31 manufacturers.
