Used Cupra Born 2022-present reliability
Category: Electric car
The Cupra Born borrows the VW ID 3's best bits and adds a slightly more upmarket interior and better handling.
What should I look for in a used Cupra Born hatchback?
Nothing out of the ordinary just yet – do the usual visual checks of things like the wheels and tyres, as well as take it for a test drive if you can.
The Born gets an extensive suite of safety kit. This includes automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, a driver fatigue monitor and traffic-sign recognition, which shows you the speed limit of the road you're driving on.
Just like the closely-related VW ID 3, the Born scored a full five stars when it was tested by Euro NCAP. The Born scored higher in the adult occupancy section than the ID 3, though, with no mention of the poor chest protection that blotted that car's score book. The Born also outperformed the Renault Megane E-Tech in this area.

Is a used Cupra Born hatchback reliable?
We believe the Born to be a reliable car. In our 2023 What Car? Reliability Survey, the Born ranked fifth out of 20 cars in the electric car class. Its reliability score of 95.6% put it above the ID 3 and Tesla Model 3 but below the Mini Electric and 2014-2020 VW e-Golf.
Electrical glitches were the most common complaint of Cupra Born owners, who told us 18% of their cars had a fault. The problem areas were the air-con, non-engine electrics and sat-nav/infotainment system. All cars remained driveable and four out of five were fixed in less than a week, with Cupra stumping up for all associated bills.
As a car brand, Cupra didn't perform so well – to put it lightly. Out of 32 manufacturers, Cupra came last. In other words, think of any other mainstream manufacturer – Audi, Ford, Toyota, VW, etc. – and it'll have placed higher in the list. Of course, other Cupra cars are to blame for this, rather than the Born.
Used Cupra Born: owners' reliability data
Owners we've heard from have praised the general, mechanical reliability of the Cupra Born, but the model hasn't proven without fault. The infotainment system has been the main cause of frustration, being laggy and glitchy in some cases, as well as poorly laid out.
