A classy interior and tidy handling mark the X2 out, but its ride is firm and others are more practical.
What should I look for in a used BMW X2 hatchback?
Make sure you check the alloy wheels for kerb damage, particularly on M Sport cars with larger wheels that are more susceptible to striking something. Parking sensors are standard on the X2, so parking dents and scratches shouldn’t be a major issue. Even so, make sure there are no poor-quality paint repairs to the bumpers and bodywork, because these could void the corrosion warranty if they weren’t carried out to the manufacturer's specification.
The interior is filled with lots of high-quality materials, but since these types of cars tend to be used by families, you should make sure there are no stains on the boot carpet or in the footwells – particularly on X2s with a light interior colour.
What are the most common problems with a used BMW X2 hatchback?
There have been a few recalls so far.
The affected vehicles may be equipped with a crankshaft sensor with a software fault. The crankshaft sensor cannot process the signal values from the crankshaft transmitter due to an improper firmware level. The firmware does not compensate sufficiently the temperature gradients and the magnetic field strength of the sensor electronics. If the crankshaft sensor cannot process the signal values from the transmitter the Digital Diesel Electronic (DDE) will notice that and change to the emergency operation mode. The emergency mode will be displayed by the check control message “engine malfunction”. The driver may notice a rough running engine and a reduced driving power (70%). However, an engine stalling during driving conditions cannot be excluded.
The steering gear tie rod may not have been assembled with a required spherical washer.
In very rare cases welding beads were not always completely removed in the cleaning process during battery production.
A possibility of impurities contained in the HV batteries may cause short circuit.

The material quality of seat and seatbelt screws may not be according to specification.
The micro gas generator within the front seatbelt’s retractor may have been damaged and may not act according to the specification in the event of an accident.
It's worth checking with your local dealer that all remedial work has been carried out.
