Used test: Suzuki Swift Sport vs Volkswagen Up GTI verdict

Both of these diminutive hot hatches are loads of fun, plus they're seriously cheap when bought used. But which is the better buy?...

New Suzuki Swift Sport vs Volkswagen Up GTI

Our verdict

One thing’s for sure, if you were to put either of these two little pocket rockets on your driveway we think you’d be more than happy.

Indeed bought as here, at three years old, the Swift seems like a much more tempting proposition than it does when it’s bought new, as it suddenly looks quite good value. It offers more performance than the Up, too, and more practicality. It’s also the better specced of the two cars.

However, if you can live with its obvious space limitations, we’d go for the Up. It’s more rewarding to drive, which is a very big factor here, and it has a classier interior. In short, it’s a real hoot, and very few cars deliver as much fun for this sort of money.
