Used test: BMW X2 vs Volvo XC40 verdict

You can save more than £10,000 on either of these prestige family SUVs by buying used, but which car should you choose? We have the answer...

BMW X2 vs Volvo XC40

Our verdict

The BMW X2 has the sportier drive, and there's no finer-handling car in its class. It’s also pretty rapid in a straight line and has a class-leading infotainment system. Add to that cheaper used prices and you've got yourself an excellent car – and one we wouldn't blame you for wanting or buying.

However, in the company of the Volvo XC40 brains beats brawn. At the end of the day, these are family SUVs and that makes it hard to ignore the extra space you get in the XC40 for people and luggage. Real thought has gone into the layout of the interior, and it’s really well screwed together. It's not just a big box either – it’s also a fantastically comfortable and refined way of getting from A to B in a totally unflustered manner.
