Used test: Audi RS4 Avant vs Mercedes-AMG C63 S Estate: verdict
You can save up to £20,000 if you buy one of these cracking performance estates used, but which should take pride of place on your driveway?...
Our Verdict
As we said at the beginning of this test, the Audi RS4 Avant has a lot going for it on paper – and plenty of that translates into the real world. It's effortlessly quick, very classy inside and, if you can find one featuring the optional Dynamic Ride Control, smooth and comfortable to drive.
However, what you can't quite see – or experience – on paper is how a car drives, and that's where the RS4 doesn't quite cut the mustard as a performance car. It doesn't feel like a particularly exciting, rewarding or competent fast estate from behind the wheel, especially when faced with competition from rivals such as the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Estate.
The C63 S is the more thrilling, entertaining, confidence-inspiring package. It's also just as cheap to buy and actually slightly more affordable to run, plus it doesn't compromise on the sensible, practical aspects of being an estate car much more than the RS4. The C63 S is our winner.
