Used test: Audi RS3 Sportback vs Mercedes-AMG A45

Hot hatches don't come more fast and furious than the Audi RS3 and Mercedes-AMG A45, but which one makes the most sense at two years old? We've got the answer...

Audi RS3 side

What will they cost?

Study the figures and you’ll see the RS3 has held on to its value extremely well, losing only about £5000 of its initial purchase price in the two years it’s been on the road. This is good news for those that bought it new and indeed for anyone thinking of buying it as here, because although they’ll pay more for the privilege than they would for the A45 it looks like the RS3’s better residuals will get you more of your money back when you come to sell it.

Mercedes-AMG A45

Of course, on the flip side, bought at this age the A45 looks like a bargain next to the RS3, saving you at least £7000. Insurance premiums are higher on the RS3, too, as are fuel costs. However, the A45 will cost more to service.

Reliability-wise, neither of these two models featured in our most recent survey, but Audi as a brand finished in a lowly 20th out of 32 manufacturers while Mercedes-Benz finished in a disappointing 26th place.
