Used test: Audi Q5 vs Jaguar F-Pace costs
It's tough to defeat a used, two-year-old Audi Q5, but this suave Jaguar F-Pace aims to do exactly that. Let battle commence...
Buying and owning
Costs, equipment, reliability, safety and security
After two years on the used car market, the Audi Q5 has landed at around £36,000 and the Jaguar F-Pace at around £38,000. Both cars have depreciated by a similar amount in the first two years and we'd expect them to carry on having similar residual values as they age further.
Both cars return a solid 37mpg in varied real-world driving, not to mention you’ll see 40mpg or more from either if you spend most of your time on the motorway.
To insure, the F-Pace should turn out cheaper. Its insurance group of 28 puts costs at around £765, while the Q5's group 35 means it should set you back around £903.
For £672, you can get two services of the Q5 through Audi. We were quoted £967 for two services of the F-Pace via Jaguar.
Things are close in the equipment stakes. The Q5 may miss out on the F-Pace’s full leather upholstery and electric seat adjustment (its seats are half-leather), but it makes amends with adaptive LED headlights (these can automatically shape their beams to avoid dazzling other road users) and three-zone climate control that enables you to control the temperature in the back separately to that in the front. The F-Pace has non-adaptive LED lights and two-zone climate control.
The Q5 required its original owner to add the £1395 Comfort and Sound Pack if you want keyless entry, although you also gain a surround-view parking camera, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, extended interior ambient lighting and a handsfree tailgate that opens when you wave your foot below the bumper. Keyless entry was a £555 option on the F-Pace when new, while a surround-view parking camera came as standard.
In our 2022 What Car? Reliability Survey, the Q5 (in diesel form) ranked 23rd out of 32 cars in the large SUV class. The F-Pace came 15th. As brands, Audi ranked 21st out of 32 manufacturers, besting Jaguar in 26th.
