Toyota Aygo pricing to start from 8595
* Toyota announces new Aygo pricing and equipment * Available in three trims and starts at £8595 * Goes on sale on July 1...
Pricing and equipment levels for the new Toyota Aygo city car have been revealed ahead of the car going on sale in July.
What is it?
The Toyota Aygo is a brand new city car, which was developed alongside the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 108. All three cars are very similar, but each has its own element to make it stand out.
The Aygo's main selling point is its personalisation – it has 10 interchangeable exterior and cabin features and it is the most customisable Toyota ever.
How good are its rivals?
The city car class is a fiercely competitive one, with the Aygo having to compete with a former What Car? Car of the Year in the Volkswagen Up and the reigning What Car? City Car of the Year, the Hyundai i10.
Both the Up and the i10 brought a level of luxury and equipment to the class that was previously not available. The Up has equipment such as DAB digital radio and satellite-navigation. It also took top spot in the 2014 What Car?/JD Power customer satisfaction survey.
The i10 is just well equipped as the Up, and is wonderfully quiet and easy to drive.
What engines can I choose from?
The 2014 Toyota Aygo comes with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that is paired with either a manual or automated manual gearbox. Emissions start at 88g/km when you choose the model with stop-start technology, and fuel economy is as good as 72.4mpg.
The 89bhp engine takes 14.2 seconds to get from 0-62mph and has a 99mph top speed.
How much equipment does it come with?
There are three trim levels to choose from – Aygo x, Aygo x-play and Aygo x-pression. The car comes with LED daytime running lights, electric front windows, Isofix child-seat points and 14-inch wheels as standard.
The x-play trim adds a piano black X to the front of the car, body-coloured door handles and mirrors, leather interior details, Bluetooth, air-conditioning, 50/50 split-folding rear seats and steering-wheel-mounted controls.
The Aygo x-pression comes with 15-inch alloy wheels, piano black details on the exterior, front foglights, part-leather sports seats, chrome interior detailing and a body-coloured instrument panel. It also gets Toyota's x-touch multimedia system, DAB digital radio and a rearview camera.
At launch, the Aygo will also come with two special editions - x-cite and x-clusiv. The x-cite edition is available in orange, and comes with black alloy wheels with an orange centre and has gloss black details on the inside and outside of the car. It also comes with the x-touch system with DAB and the parking camera.
The x-clusiv edition is available only in black and offers the same equipment as the x-cite trim. It also has automatic headlights.
There is also a choice of several customisation packs, rangine in price from £165 to £499. The Outstand pack, for example, lets you customise the front X, rear bumper and other details in one of three colours.
You can also add decals, get interior details in the car's body colour and choose different alloy wheels.
How much will it cost?
Prices start from £8595 for the three-door x model with the manual gearbox, and go up to £12,395 for the 3dr x-clusiv with the x-shift automatic gearbox.
It costs £400 to upgrade to from a three-door to a five-door car across all versions.
