Toyota Auris gets stop-start

Toyota's Auris small family car will come with stop-start from next year.

The emissions-lowering technology, which cuts the engine when the car's at a standstill and fires it up when the clutch is depressed, will come with a new 98bhp 1.33-litre petrol engine.

Toyota hasn't revealed prices for the new model yet, but it's expected to emit less than 120g/km of carbon dioxide and will go on sale at the start of 2009.

The same engine will also be fitted to Toyota's new iQ city car by the second quarter of next year.
