Top 10 used SUVs for less than £2000 (and the ones to avoid)
A good-quality SUV doesn't have to be the preserve of those with thousands to spend. Here are our 10 top picks for less than £2000 – and a couple you should give a wide berth...
1. Honda CR-V
The second-generation Honda CR-V has plenty going for it. It might not be quite as entertaining as a Toyota RAV4, but it is fantastically easy to drive, extremely comfortable, very spacious and, with its sliding rear seats, usefully versatile. And as long as you stick with the petrol – diesels are known to chew through clutches quite rapidly – its reliability should be bulletproof. What more could you want for £2000?
We found: 2002 2.0 i-VTEC SE, 102,000 miles, full service history, £1999

And the SUVs to avoid…
Vauxhall Frontera
It’s decent enough in the mud, but the Vauxhall Frontera is terrible to drive on asphalt and has a reputation for awful reliability
Ssangyong Rexton
Awkward looks, terrible build quality, a naff interior and truck-like driving dynamics can’t make up for the Ssangyong Rexton’s off-road ability.
