There are plenty of SUVs to choose from, but they're not all as dependable as their rugged looks imply. So, here we reveal the top 25 performers in our most recent Reliability Survey...
=14. Honda CR-V (2012-2018)
Reliability rating 97.4%
Only 13% of the Honda CR-Vs we were told about suffered a problem, mainly to do with the engine, exhaust, gearbox and sat nav. Half of these were fixed within a day, while the other half took up to a week to repair, but all work was done at no cost to the owners.

=14. Skoda Kamiq (2019-present)
Reliability rating 97.4%
Only 25% of the Kamiqs that went wrong were fixed in less than a day, while a further 25% were in a repair shop for more than a week. Luckily, though, Skoda covered the costs of all 12% of the reported faults that occurred, most of which were surrounding non-engine electrics.

13. Mazda CX-5 (2017-present)
Reliability rating 97.5%
Although 12% of petrol CX-5s suffered a glitch, all issues were resolved relatively swiftly. All cars could still be driven, 63% were fixed in a day or less and no owners were faced with nasty bills because Mazda covered all costs. Problem areas included the bodywork, interior trim and seats and battery.
Reliability rating 97.7%
The X2 has an almost blemish-free reliability record, with just 7% of cars going wrong. The only areas affected were the exhaust and non-engine electrics. All cars remained driveable and spent less than a week being fixed. Even better, all work was carried out at no cost to the owner.

=10. BMW X3 petrol (2018-present)
Reliability rating 97.7%
Although 17% of the petrol-engined X3s we were told about had gone wrong over the previous 12 months, the majority of issues were minor, involving non-engine electrics and bodywork. All cars were still driveable and over half (60%) were repaired within a day. Even better, petrol X3 owners had no bills to pay because BMW covered the cost of all repairs.

=10. Dacia Duster (2018-present)
Reliability rating 97.7%
Although 12% of Dusters suffered a glitch, all issues were resolved swiftly and efficiently according to owners. All cars could still be driven, 43% were fixed in a day or less and no owners were presented with repair bills. Problem areas included the battery, exhaust, non-engine electrics, sat-nav and steering.

9. Hyundai Tucson (2015-2020)
Reliability rating 97.8%
The previous-generation Tucson is proving a rugged family SUV, with only 7% of owners reporting a problem with their cars. Although all repairs were carried out for free, it took dealers more than a week to remedy the issues on 80% of the faulty cars. Glitches with engine electrics were the most frequent issue, followed by faults with the battery and fuel system.

8. Porsche Macan (2014-present)
Reliability rating 97.9%
Overall, Macan owners told us that only 12% of their cars had gone wrong in the previous 12 months. Bodywork issues were the most common complaint, followed by non-engine electrics and interior issues. All of the cars we were told about were fixed under warranty, with 60% of them still driveable and repaired the same day.

=6. BMW X1 petrol (2015-present)
Reliability rating 98.4%
If you're after a dependable BMW X1, pick a petrol model because they were afflicted by nearly a third fewer problems than diesel ones, with a fault rate of 11% compared with 15% for diesels. The cost of all repairs to petrol examples was covered by BMW, and two-thirds of the issues were rectified in a day or less. The only problematic areas were the bodywork, interior trim and sat-nav.

=6. Hyundai Kona (2017-present)
Reliability rating 98.4%
Hyundai covered the expense of 12% of Konas that were reported as faulty, with the issues predominantly to do with engine, engine electrics and air-con. Impressively, 67% of the vehicles were still driveable and were fixed in under a day.
