Saab's all-new 9-5 estate revealed

Saab has revealed its all-new 9-5 Sportwagon ahead of its world debut at the Geneva motor show in March.

The estate follows the 9-5 saloon's handsome styling, with a trademark wraparound windscreen, but adds a great deal more practicality to the already large car.

With the rear seats in place, the estate can take up to 527 litres of luggage. Fold them down and you're left with a flat-sided loadbay that can swallow up to 1600 litres of stuff. That's up with the Audi A6 Avant and BMW 5 Series, but the Mercedes E-Class Estate continues to rule the roost with up to 1950 litres of space.

Hidden compartments in the walls of the boot can take small items, while there are four tie-down loops and a 12-volt power outlet. The loadbay cover features one-touch retraction while an automatic electric tailgate with remote operation will also be available.

The same flexible boot storage system on offer in the saloon will also be an option. It features U-shaped track in which a boot divider can be fixed in a variety of positions. It stores under the boot floor when not needed.

Prices are likely to start at around 28,000 for a Vector SE model using the 188bhp 2.0-litre TTiD diesel or 1.6-litre 177bhp turbocharged petrol. Order books for the car open in the spring, with first deliveries to customers expected this September.

Equipment levels will match the competitive levels of those from the saloon, while the Sportwagon will also have the same generous amount of space in the cabin for passengers.
