Mini One D diesel to debut

An entry-level diesel is to join the Mini range in September.

The Mini One D has an 88bhp version of the 1.6-litre direct-injection turbodiesel unit fitted to the Cooper D - it has 159lb ft of torque and itll do an impressive 72.4mpg.

Its economy is enhanced by stop-start technology and brake energy regeneration, and drivers are aided by a gearchange indicator which advises on optimum gearshifts.

Carbon dioxide emissions are correspondingly low, too: 104g/km, which puts the One D in tax band B.

The Mini One D will still do a respectable 113mph, however, and it accelerates 0-62mph in 11.5 seconds. It comes with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Equipment will include front and side airbags, and trim is similar to that of the petrol Mini One, with a chrome-edged grille and black cross-louvres, black mirror caps, black bootlid handle and chromed exhaust tailpipe.

Pricing will be announced nearer to the launch this autumn.
