Infiniti FX

Overall rating: Five stars
Adult occupation score: 86%
Child protection score: 77%
Pedestrian protection: 44%
Safety assist: 99%

Adult occupant
The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact. Structures in the dashboard presented a risk of injury to the knees and femurs of both driver and passenger.

The FX scored maximum points in the side barrier impact. In the more severe side pole test, protection of all body regions was rated as good apart from the chest, which was adequate. Protection against whiplash injury in a rear impact was rated as marginal.

Child occupant
Forward movement of the head of dummy representing a three-year-old was not excessive in the frontal impact (the dummy of an 18-month-old was in a rearward-facing restraint).

In the side impact, both dummies were properly contained by their restraints. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that seating position. However, information provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag is not sufficiently clear.

A label on the passenger sun visor clearly warns against the dangers of using a rearward-facing child seat without first disabling the airbag.

Pedestrian
The bumper provided predominantly marginal protection for pedestrian's legs and the front edge of the bonnet was mostly poor. In most areas likely to be struck by the head of a child, protection was poor, but in those areas most likely to be struck by an adult, good protection was provided.

Safety assist
The FX is equipped as standard with electronic stability control, a driver-set speed-limitation device and a seatbelt reminder system covering the driver, front passenger and all rear seating positions.
