Car of the Year Awards 2021: Best large electric car for comfort
Whatever their flavour, the best large electric cars have the range, comfort and performance to cover long distances without a murmur, plus the space and practicality to act as sole transport for...
Audi E-tron 50 Technik
If much of the appeal of an electric car is the ability to waft around in near-silence, the Audi E-tron should be right at the top of your list, because it generates next to no wind or road noise.
You also get supportive, fully electric seats with a memory function – even on entry-level Technik trim. And all models have adaptive air suspension that’s pillowsoft in Comfort mode, especially if you stick to the smallest 20in wheels.
Switching to the Dynamic setting firms things up for a bit more body control and less lean in bends, although the E-tron is most definitely at its best cruising rather than cornering on the door handles.
Adding icing to your cake, the interior is spacious and well built and feels appropriately plush. So, why doesn’t the E-tron win the class outright? Well, to select our favourite trim and make the cost easier to swallow, you’ll have to stick to the 50 quattro, which provides a range of less than 200 miles. If that’s not enough for you, boosting it to nearer 250 miles will cost a good chunk more.
