Car of the Year Awards 2021: Best family SUV interior

Cars in this class must obviously provide sufficient space for families. However, the best also offer a comfortable ride, tidy handling and blend performance with wallet-friendly costs...

The only bad thing about the Range Rover Evoque’s interior is that you’re unlikely to ever want to get out of it. With a driving position that places you higher up than in the rival Audi Q3 and BMW X1, you’re guaranteed a great view over the road ahead, while the fact that every Evoque gets front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera makes parking a doddle.

Our recommended HSE trim even has a rear-view mirror that displays the view directly behind the car from a camera at the rear – useful if you’re loaded down with luggage or passengers in the rear. Speaking of space, you can fit just as much into the boot of this plug-in hybrid version of the Evoque as you can into its purely combustion-engined siblings.

Its electric motor and battery mean you can travel for up to 34 miles without using a drop of fuel, too. There’s also a 1.5-litre petrol engine under the bonnet, which provides punchy performance when it joins the fray, while low CO2 emissions make this Evoque especially tempting for company car drivers.
