Car of the Year Awards 2021: Best executive car for value
A top-notch executive car must do it all – frugally and in style. Buyers want effortless long-haul capability, a comfortable and classy interior, and low benefit-in-kind tax rates...
Skoda Superb 1.5 TSI 150 SE Technology
Well equipped, comfy and oh so roomy in the front, back and boot, the Superb sets the standard among cars at its price point and challenges many cars that cost an awful lot more. Its cosy seats, plush interior and intuitive infotainment stand out in particular in this regard.
The turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine is another fine asset, combining strong performance with alluring fuel economy for such a large car, as well as delivering company car tax-friendly CO2 emissions that ensure it’s affordable to run as well as to buy.
We recommend SE Technology trim; it offers an impressive array of kit without raising the price unreasonably. Dual-zone climate control and adaptive cruise control are included, for instance, as are a DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Negatives? You have to look hard to unearth them, but it’s certainly true that the Superb doesn’t deliver the sparkle of the Ford Mondeo or Mazda 6 when you’re behind the wheel. Given its all-round strengths, though, it’s doubtful many owners will give it much thought.
