Car of the Year Awards 2021: Best coupé SUV for value
Like conventional coupés, coupé SUVs need to have sleek looks, but that style shouldn’t come at the expense of too much practicality, while quality, comfort and handling are also important...
Citroën C4 Puretech 130 Shine
While there are a lot of coupé SUVs these days, most of them wear premium badges that bring premium price tags. However, the Citroën C4 makes the same blend of swoopy looks and elevated seating much more affordable.
There’s a fully electric version that can officially cover a respectable 217 miles between charges and has the potential to slash your running costs. As tempting as this sounds, we still prefer the Puretech 130 petrol model; it undercuts the electric C4 by more than £9000 (even after you’ve factored in the Government’s electric car grant) and combines sprightly performance with impressive frugality. True, the C4 suffers from a lot of body lean in bends, but the pay-off is the sort of pillow-soft ride that Citroën is famous for.
Space is comparable with that of conventional family hatchbacks such as the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf, so the C4 is a surprisingly practical choice. And our favoured Shine trim gives you everything from adaptive cruise control to a camera to help with parking.
