2023 Autocar Awards winners revealed

The Range Rover Sport and MG4 – two winners at the 2023 What Car? Car of the Year Awards – have been named the best SUV and best electric car respectively by our sister title, Autocar, at its annual awards.
The awards, which recognise the best cars on sale today and the people involved in making them, also named the Hyundai Ioniq 6 the best company car, the Porsche 911 GT3 the best driver’s car and the Dacia Sandero the best budget car.
The Issigonis Trophy, named after Mini designer Sir Alec Issigonis, was awarded to the Duke of Richmond in recognition of his contributions to the car industry. The Duke was responsible for the reopening in the 1990s of the Goodwood Motor Circuit, which now hosts a number of annual events for car makers and enthusiasts, most notably the Festival of Speed.
Dacia CEO Denis Le Vot received the Sturmey Award (named after Autocar's founding editor, Henry Sturmey), for Dacia’s common-sense approach to car design, which under Le Vot’s leadership has helped it become one of Europe’s best-selling manufacturers.
Other industry figures celebrated as part of the Autocar Awards included Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Yasa founder Tim Woolmer and head of Nissan Design Europe Matt Weaver. They took home accolades for leadership, engineering and design respectively.
Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing’s technical director, was honoured with the Motorsport Award for his adaptability to ever-changing Formula 1 regulations, which has underpinned his four decades of career success. The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Bugatti test driver Andy Wallace for his talent, determination and humility.
The Toyota GR86 was Autocar’s ‘future classic’ of the year, owing to its sharp looks, enjoyable handling and surprising practicality. The BMW M3 Touring was the best dream car and the Honda Civic Type R the best fun car.
