Peugeot gives its electric people carrier a new look, new tech and increased battery range. Here's everything you need to know about the 2024 Peugeot e-Rifter...

Bigger is better, or so the saying goes. And for many electric car drivers, that’s certainly true when it comes to range, meaning each new model typically goes further than the model it replaces.

The 2024 Peugeot e-Rifter is a perfect example. It uses the same 50kWh battery as before, but thanks to a now-standard heat pump, its official range has been boosted from a so-so 174 miles to a far more useful 199 miles.

At a stroke, Peugeot has addressed one of our key criticisms, and it’s highly likely that the same technology will be applied across the e-Rifter’s sister models, the Citroën e-Berlingo and the Vauxhall Combo Life Electric.

The heat pump isn't the only change for the facelifted e-Rifter. The electric people carrier has an entirely redesigned front end, with a new grille, bumper and headlights featuring Peugeot’s three-claw design.

Two new paint colours – Sirkka Green and Kiama Blue – join the range.

Inside, there’s an all-new dashboard that houses a new 10in central touchscreen with TomTom navigation, the latest “OK Peugeot” voice control, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

A total of 18 driver assistance systems feature, including speed-limit recognition, adaptive cruise control, a 180-degree HD reversing camera and improved park assist, which is backed by 12 sensors.

The e-Rifter features a 7.4kW onboard charger as standard, with a faster 11kW three-phase charger on the options list. Having the faster charging speed (11kW) should cut charging time from about five hours for a full charge to two and a half hours.

Meanwhile, with a charging speed rating of 100kW DC, it should be possible to charge from 0-80% in half an hour using a suitably fast public charger.

The heat pump, which is fitted across the e-Rifter range, harvests heat from the motor to warm the battery, potentially improving range significantly. Alternatively, it can help to warm the interior, reducing the energy required to run conventional heating systems.

As before, the e-Rifter has regenerative braking but now there are three modes rather than two, plus three driving modes: Eco, Power and Normal, each of which vary performance and responsiveness.

The e-Rifter is still available in a standard version with five individually folding seats or in long-wheelbase, seven-seater form. All versions have sliding rear doors and a large rear tailgate. GT models have a tailgate window that can open independently.

Unusually, the placement of the car’s batteries doesn't impact boot space over the regular Peugeot Rifter. With the seats up, the standard-wheelbase model has 775 litres of storage space. The long-wheelbase version packs 4,000 litres. That’s a vast space, and means it’s highly unlikely you’ll need to ever rent a van.
