2018 Jaguar I-Pace – exclusive Reader Test Team preview
Join What Car? for an exclusive preview of the new Jaguar I-Pace on Tuesday 19 June in Coventry, West Midlands...
Currently, if you want a premium electric car, your options are limited to the two models you'll find in a Tesla showroom.
But that will change in July, when Jaguar's first-ever electric car, an Audi Q5-sized SUV, will hit the roads.
The Jaguar I-Pace is powered by a 90kWh lithium ion battery, giving an official driving range of up to 298 miles.
That's 39 miles more than the entry-level version of Tesla's Model X, which costs £63,500 to the I-Pace's £63,495 – although the £80,200 version of the Model X is capable of 351 miles.
Public charging to 80% capacity on a 50kW charger will take 1hr 25min, says Jaguar, and a 30-minute charge will give 80 miles of range. At home, a 7kW wall box will charge the battery from 0% to 80% in 10 hours.
As for power, the I-Pace's twin motors deliver 395bhp to all four wheels, enabling a 0-60mph time of just 4.5sec.
It has a spacious but conventionally laid-out five-seat interior featuring a large infotainment touchscreen.
