Buyers seeking value for money should have Kia towards the top of their shopping list.

Although once a niche brand in the UK, today Kia outsells many more established brands, helped by its market-leading seven-year warranty and a strong reputation for reliability; in fact, Kia regularly finishes towards the top of our reliability surveys.

There are plenty of models to choose from, too, ranging from the small Picanto city car to the Ceed family hatchback and the Sorento large SUV. The Picanto was the first Kia to win its class at the What Car? Car of the Year awards.

SORENTO

This entry-level trim makes the most sense in the lineup because it’s the cheapest version of the Sorento but still comes with a decent amount of kit. That includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and wireless smartphone mirroring. It’s a shame it misses out on some safety equipment which the higher trim levels get, though.

This mid-spec trim adds things like a bigger digital driver display, heated rear seats, an upgraded sound system and side parking sensors as well as safety equipment like the blind-spot camera system. If your budget can stretch to it then it might be worth considering, but we still think 2 offers the best value in the lineup.

This range-topping trim pushes the Sorento’s price up very high. It adds rear airbags (it’s a shame the lower trims don’t get this as standard), a panoramic sunroof, a system which lets you park the car remotely via a smartphone and heated rear seats. Because of the price, it’s difficult to recommend.
