Jim Holder was editorial director at What Car? between 2014 and 2023, as well as for other market-leading automotive brands in the Haymarket Automotive portfolio, including Autocar, Car Accessory Trader (CAT), Classic & Sports Car and Move Electric.
He started as a motorsport journalist in 1996, covering everything from stock car racing through to Formula 1. This included reporting for national titles including The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Star and Reuters as chief Formula 1 correspondent.
Jim has also edited Motorsport News, What Car? and Autocar. And in September 2015 Jim took on a broader role as a commentator during the Volkswagen emissions scandal, appearing on BBC television and radio, Channel 4 News, Good Morning Britain and more. He also appeared at a Parliamentary Select Committee to share his expertise with UK MPs investigating VW’s actions.
Jim graduated from Reading University in 1996 with a degree in history, and currently works as a freelance motoring writer.
